The 21st Theater Sustainment Command held a retreat and retirement ceremony on the Panzer Parade Field at Panzer Kaserne, June 30, to honor a lifetime of commitment and service of eight 21st TSC personnel.

A retreat ceremony traditionally signals the end of the duty day by lowering the Nation’s colors. In Germany, the U.S. and German colors are honored while Soldiers and civilians pay respect to the flags.

Six of the retirees were Soldiers whose careers spanned from 20 to 28 years. Command Sgt. Maj. Kent Mace, the senior enlisted advisor for the 391st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, Sgt. 1st Class Rodney Killian, the supply NCO in charge for the 357th Air and Missile Defense Detachment, Sgt. 1st Class Joe Hamner, the NCO in charge of the Emergency Department at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Sgt. 1st Class John Kennedy of the 357th Air and Missile Defense Detachment, Sgt. 1st Class Marcella Johnson, the NCO in charge of the Wounded Warrior Pay Office and Staff Sgt. Edward Greene of the Warrior Transition Unit.
In addition, two civilian employees were honored during the ceremony. Margarete Tries, a supply technician for the 21st TSC, and Friedrich Stemmler, a budget analyst for the 21st TSC’s Public Affairs section.

The guest speaker at the ceremony was Brig. Gen. Jimmie Jaye Wells, the commanding general of the 7th Civil Support Command and deputy commanding general of the 21st TSC. Wells’ speech acknowledged each retiree for their dedicated service and significant accomplishments throughout their careers.
“It was a great ceremony, really professional,” said Mace. “I plan to continue serving with the Department of Defense by working at the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy as an instructor.”

“I really appreciated the speech given by Gen. Wells and all the support I received for my retirement,” said Greene. “I’m going to miss the challenges of the Army and all the things you have to overcome.”
The 21st TSC retreat and retirement ceremony is a monthly event.
