The Ramstein KMC 5/6 Club has played an active role in the military community since its formation in 2002. In the following exchange, Staff Sgt. Willie A. Baker, the club’s president, outlines what the group is all about.

Q:  What is the Ramstein 5/6 Club?  What do they do?
A:  The KMC 5/6 Club was formed in 2002 and membership is open to all Air Force E-5s and E-6s, including selectees. The KMC 5/6 has its hands in many pots across the KMC, but our primary focus is the professional development of the Air Force’s very core; the Junior NCOs.

There aren’t that many places a staff or technical sergeant can go where the command chief is there to listen to you, where you can get assistance with personal issues via networking, and where you can get a word of advice or guidance on literally any issue from someone who has “been there, done that.”

Q: What does the 5/6 Club do for me?
A:  The KMC 5/6 offers the “5 Reason” principle for joining the organization: information dissemination, involvement, key networking opportunities, professional development and growth with a special emphasis on why it’s your duty to do so.

Q:  What kind of leadership training, if any, can be expected as a member of the 5/6 Club?
A:  We have integrated the Chief’s Mentorship Program, in which chief master sergeants throughout the KMC area come to our monthly meetings and mentor our members on various topics.  We are fortunate to have such a supportive group of leaders who are willing to put in that kind of time. As a matter of fact, we were recently visited by Retired Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Sam Parish. Our members have been given many opportunities like this where we are able to sit among those who have done so much and have the experience and knowledge we seek to make us better NCOs.

Q:  How does the 5/6 Club integrate with other service organizations?
A:  The KMC 5/6 president, as well as the presidents from the other service organizations, meet once a month during a private organization meeting to touch base and discuss various topics. This is the best way to keep up with what is going on in the local area and we get the opportunity to help each other.

Q:  How does base leadership take an active role in the 5/6 Club?
A:  Base leadership maintains a significant role in the KMC 5/6.  Base leadership has ranged from members of the KMC Top 3, chiefs, command chiefs and wing commanders that have shown continuous support to the KMC 5/6 at our monthly meetings. We are extremely lucky to have a direct outlet to base leadership. They want the best from us and they work hard to help us do it.

Q:  What are the membership requirements?
A:  You have to be an E-5/E-6 or have a line number for staff sergeant to become a member of the KMC 5/6. If you meet these requirements you are automatically added to a mail distribution list and included in all e-mail notifications of upcoming events and meetings. We do our part and keep everyone well informed. It is up to them as to how involved they want to become. There are different levels of commitment: active members, non-voting members and honorary members. To be an active voting member of the club there is a one time initial membership fee of $10 and an annual fee of $10. Money collected from membership fees are used to offset ongoing projects and activities.

Q:  When and where does the 5/6 Club meet?
A:  The KMC 5/6 meets the first Thursday of every month at 11:30 a.m. in Martini’s Lounge at the Ramstein Enlisted Club.
