BAUMHOLDER, Germany — The road to war for any unit preparing for deployment is a long process, but the Soldiers of 720th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company can see the finish line as they were issued the new MultiCam Army Combat Uniforms here Jan. 24 in preparation for their upcoming deployment.

“This is pretty near the final step,” said Capt. Clinton Pierce, the commander of the 720th EOD Co. “It’s just one less thing that we have to deal with down there so we can focus on the mission immediately.”

The 720th EOD Co. has undergone an extensive training process in preparation for their deployment, and the Soldiers said they feel well prepared. In addition to recently completing their final weapons qualification exercises, the unit also conducted training in Alabama to ensure that each Soldier is confident and prepared to execute the mission.

In December, the Soldiers of the 720th EOD Co. conducted an EOD-specific certification training course at Redstone Arsenal, Ala., called GATOR or Global Anti-Terrorism Operational Readiness Course.

“At the end of that (course), everyone was feeling really confident; it was that last step that they needed to put their heads where they need to be,” Captain Pierce said. “Every one of my Soldiers is really looking forward to getting downrange and doing their jobs, which they all love to do.”

The Soldiers of 720th EOD Co. echoed Captain Pierce’s comments.
When asked if they are confident, 720th EOD Co. technician Sgt. Jeremy Mackey said, “Absolutely. Some of the newer Soldiers have the nervousness going on, but for the most part we’re all ready to go.” For Pvt. Ryan Bivens, an EOD technician with the 720th EOD Co., this deployment will be his first.

“I’m excited to deploy with these guys — complete confidence,” he said.
The 720th EOD Co. will deploy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom later this year.
