Col. Robert Kane, 86th Airlift Wing commander, took over reins of the KMC as commander Thursday following the change of command ceremony for the 435th Air Base Wing here.
In his new role, Colonel Kane, who is awaiting congressional endorsement for his selection to brigadier general, will become Ramstein’s host installation commander, as well as, provide oversight of and ensure the appropriate execution of installation support activities throughout the KMC. He will also be the “point man” for interaction with U.S. Army Europe units assigned to the KMC and the lead military community liaison with local host nation civic leaders.
“Ramstein has been in a mode of rebuilding, preparing for an increase in heavy airlift with the transition of the Rhein-Main Air Base missions,” said Gen. Robert H. “Doc” Foglesong, U.S. Air Forces in Europe commander. “As we continue to forge ahead and focus on a robust operational wing within the KMC, Colonel Kane’s knowledge and understanding of the flying mission will ensure we’re able to continue to provide excellent support to the local community, in tandem with the increase in flying operations.”
Subordinate units will remain under their current wings except the host nation office and the command post, which will move to support the KMC commander directly.
Outgoing 435th ABW commander Brig. Gen. Rosanne Bailey will soon assume command of the Cheyenne Mountain Operations Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
