FRÜHLINGSFEST (SPRING FESTIVAL)

JUNE 15–17, ABBEY CHURCH SQUARE/WALDFESTPLATZ, OTTERBERG 

Since the middle of the 18th century, it has been tradition to celebrate the Frühlingsfest every second year. The festival will be opened by the mayor on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. for lively music and drink. Don’t be startled if you are wakened by loud gun shots on Sunday morning at 6 a.m., this marks the start of the musicians marching through the town. The highlight will be on Sunday at 1 p.m. with a colorful parade through the historic town crowned by the Frühlingskönigin (queen) drawn in a carriage with black horses along with her court. Musicians in traditional costumes will take part with walking groups dressed as Cistercian monks, Huguenots, Walloons and a night watchman. School and kindergarten children, local clubs with floats will join the parade with over 1,000 participants expected. Afterwards anyone interested is welcome to join the procession to Waldfestplatz, with food, beverages, music and a colorful atmosphere, a shuttle bus will also be available. Don’t miss out on this exciting and historic festival! If you wish to see the parade, make sure to get there early, parking is very limited. 

 

75TH BERLIN AIRLIFT ANNIVERSARY

JUNE 16, 9:30 A.M. – 8 P.M., CLAY KASERNE AIRFIELD, WIESBADEN 

U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden and the State of Hesse will host a public commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift. U.S. Army Wiesbaden, previously an Air Force airfield, was one of the main locations that launched aircraft in support of the Berlin Airlift 1948-1949. Visitors can see historic aircraft and current equipment from U.S. and German militaries, and also enjoy food, fun and live music. Access to the premises is only on foot, by bike, by taxi or by shuttle bus and may have to queue at the entrance. The event will be signposted on autobahns and roads, Park & Ride lots and services will be available. Please note: Only service dogs will be permitted and there will be a strict alcohol, drug and smoking ban, bulky items and drones are not permitted. EASTERN MENNONITE HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR CONCERT

JUNE 15, 7 P.M., ST. NORBERT/KLOSTERKIRCHE, ENKENBACH

The choir from Harrisonburg, Virginia shares close ties to the Mennonite community in Enkenbach and is currently visiting Germany. Music was a primary goal when EMS was founded more than 100 years ago. Today the creative spark in every student is nurtured through music, performing arts and visual arts. Come out and enjoy a lively concert in a spiritual church setting. 

 

16TH KAISERSLAUTERN CLASSICS, FASCINATION OLDTIMERS

JUNE 15, 10 A.M. – 6 P.M., CITY CENTER, KAISERSLAUTERN 

Shining chrome, curved lines, large eyes – Kaiserslautern’s classics are again on display! Admire old timers, state-of-the-art models, motorcycles and commercial vehicles that will astonish automobile fans and nostalgics alike. Experience a bit of automobile history in the heart of Kaiserslautern. 

 

ALTE WELT GOURMET HIKE

JUNE 16, 10 A.M. – 6 P.M., HEIMKIRCHEN/NEAR OTTERBERG

The 11th “Old World” gourmet hike will take place in Heimkirchen. The wonderful circular hiking trail with fantastic views offers eight different stations set up over a distance of 5.5 km. Exclusive Palatinate “Old World” specialties will be prepared to enjoy. The diversity of the landscape is also reflected in the variety of food on offer, most of which comes from the region. Various liqueurs, fresh draught beer and offers for wine connoisseurs can also be enjoyed. Be it smoked trout, vegetable meatballs or homemade cakes, all freshly prepared from the ponds and forests. A 3-language menu in German, Palatinate and English leaves nothing to be desired. HAMBACH FEST “SCHWARZ-ROT-GOLD” (WINE AND VILLAGE FESTIVAL)

JUNE 14–16, HAMBACH/NEUSTADT 

Three days of freedom, equality and brotherhood await visitors at the wine fest in Hambach, a section of Neustadt/Weinstrasse in honor of the Hambacher Fest on May 24, 1832. The historic festival is considered to be the “cradle of German democracy.” Visitors can expect local wines and regional specialties, art, music, theater for young and old in a very special atmosphere of the Hambacher Schlossstrasse with special illumination. The fest was voted as the most beautiful wine fest in the Pfalz in 2023. 

 

UEFA EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2024

JUNE 14 – JULY 14, VARIOUS STADIUMS IN GERMANY

This year Germany is the host of the European Soccer Championship with 24 teams competing in the cities of Berlin, Dortmund, Gelsenkirchen, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Leipzig, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Köln and the kick-off in Munich June 14. Tickets are basically sold out, but there will be “public viewings” in most cities and towns. The final is on July 14 in Berlin, so soccer fans get ready for Fussballfieber! 

 

LANGE NACHT DER KULTUR (LONG NIGHT OF CULTURE)

JUNE 22, 7 P.M. – JUNE 24, 3 A.M., 

CULTURE CENTERS/PEDESTRIAN ZONE, KAISERSLAUTERN

Kaiserslautern’s cultural centers will open for a long night of culture “Lange Nacht der Kultur” with music, art and entertainment for families in the afternoon and for adults with events up to shortly prior to sunrise. Over 100 individual events are scheduled at 25 different locations. Events will take place at various locations, such as Fruchthalle, Japanese Garden, Pfalztheater and more within and around the pedestrian zone.
