The 86th Services Squadron food service team was recently selected to compete for the prestigious 2010 John L. Hennessy Award for the second year in the row after being recognized as the 2010 U.S. Air Forces in Europe Food Services Excellence Award. Ramstein will compete in the multiple-facility category.
The award is part of an annual competition designed to determine who has the best food service program in the Air Force.
The team evaluates the installation’s entire food service program based on five graded categories. They will be evaluated on various aspects of kitchen operations, serving and dining operations, training, personnel and readiness, sanitation, maintenance and management standards. This year marks the 54th anniversary of the single and multiple-facility category competition.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be representing USAFE for this prestigious award once again. Our entire food service team has worked diligently in preparation for this year’s evaluation and are confident they will proudly represent USAFE,” said Senior Master Sgt. Maria Geguera, 86th Services Food Service section chief.
Ramstein Food Service personnel at the Rheinland Inn, the Lindberg Hof Dining Facility and the Jawbone In-Flight Kitchen continue to provide outstanding service and support for USAFE’s largest and busiest installation. The team tackles the job of supporting three wings, one MAJCOM, two NAFs and an active-duty force greater than 11,000 strong with an enviable sense of ease.
“The food service operation here is simply awesome,” said Lt. Col. Dawn C. Lancaster, 86th SVS commander. “Our team provides outstanding support for thousands of customers throughout the year and directly impacts the success of so many different missions, whether they are coming through on a deployment, attending the NCO Academy and Airman Leadership School or are permanent party members.”
The wing will be hosting an icebreaker for the John L. Hennessy Evaluation team at 4 p.m. Monday at the Ramstein Officers’ Club. The event is open to all base personnel and is free.
