JAZZ STAGE MEETS SYRIA

JAN. 17, 7:30 P.M., FRUCHTHALLE, KAISERSLAUTERN

Syrian Ahmad Wahhoud has been playing his way into the hearts of listeners for seven years. Having been persecuted and fled, the trained musician from Damascus was stranded in the Palatinate after harrowing experiences and joined the intercultural band Shaian in 2016. Formerly an accordion and guitar student, he has since devoted himself solely to his beloved strings – especially the Turkish lute (oud) – and sings Syrian songs in such a captivating way that you immediately feel transported to the Arab halls of Syria. He enchants with his warm smile and his powerful voice. But he doesn’t shy away from modernity either, interpreting everything from blues to pop songs as if you were meeting an Arab Eric Clapton. There will definitely be more than a hint of the Orient in the Fruchthalle. Tickets: www.kultopolis.com
