The 1st Battalion, 405th Army Field Support Brigade is realigning the Left Behind Equipment program in Germany in order to streamline operations and consolidate support to the Soldier.
The battalion closed the LBE site in Baumholder last month and will be closing the Mannheim location by the end of April.
“Effective no later than May of this year, almost all of our LBE operations will be conducted in Kaiserslautern,” said Lt. Col. James Kennedy, the commander of the 1st Bn., 405th AFSB. “We will be executing our LBE operations with the Theater Logistics Support Center-Europe, which is headquartered here in Kaiserslautern. Kaiserslautern will be the enduring LBE site for operations north of the Alps.”
Colonel Kennedy said he believes that by aligning all LBE operations in one location, the battalion will be able to better synchronize the program.
“By having all LBE equipment located here in Kaiserslautern with the main repair activity, we will have better oversight of property accountability,” Colonel Kennedy said. “We will be able to leverage the capabilities of TLSC-E to provide a program that is completely coordinated at one location, making the reissue of equipment to returning units much easier.”
Col. John Haley, the commander of the 405th AFSB, said streamlining all of the operations in one location will benefit the Soldier.
“Kaiserslautern is the European Sustainment Center of Excellence, and we have a long and beneficial working relationship with TLSC-E,” Colonel Haley said. “By centralizing almost all of our operations in Kaiserslautern, we will have immediate access to the dedicated professionals of TLSC-E while being able to maintain close oversight of the program.”
The realignment of the LBE operations in Germany will not impact the brigade’s LBE operations south of the Alps at 3rd Battalion, 405th AFSB, which is headquartered at Leghorn Army Depot, Italy.
