Kerscheknabber fest this weekend

Dansenberg sponsors its third village fest known as “Kerscheknabber Fest” Saturday and Sunday in and around the Sporthalle (gym) of the local sports association, TUS Dansenberg.

Several local associations will contribute to the event, that features music and dancing, eating and drinking, a balloon contest for children, and other activities.
The event will be under the auspices of Kaiserslautern’s lord mayor, Dr. Klaus Weichel.

The word “Kerscheknabber” in the fest’s name is based on the village’s crest from 1761, which shows a bird snacking on a cherry tree.

“Kerscheknabber” means snacking cherries. Locals called this bird Kerscheknabber and they themselves got the nickname Kerscheknabber from the surrounding communities.

Festivities will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday. Acting mayor Alfons Fröhlich will officially tap the first keg of beer at 7 p.m. to be followed by a performance of the dance group Rot-Weiss. Party and dance music will start at 8:30 p.m. with the band Soundtrack Project.

On Sunday, the Dansenberg Men’s Singing Association will sponsor a so-called Frühschoppen (early morning beer) with a card-playing tournament at 10:15 a.m. Local clubs will start serving all kinds of culinary food specialties at 11:30 a.m.

Around 2 p.m., the local choir and the Hohenecken singing association will entertain the audience before the gymnastics children of the local sports club present their skills at 2:30 p.m. Magician Rudini will then lure the spectators’ attention at 3 p.m.The balloon contest will take place at 3:30 p.m. in the big
parking lot in front of Sporthalle. Winners receive nice prizes.

The Rittersberg Big Band will present a repertoire of swing and jazz from 4 to 6 p.m.
