The Mackenbach Sports Association celebrates its 85th anniversary with a fest Thursday through May 23.
Several bands and local clubs provide an entertaining program in a fest tent on the school grounds.
Festivities start with a “Frühschoppen,” early morning beer at 10 a.m. Thursday to be followed by lunch with ham hocks and chicken. The Unnerhaus Jazzband from Landstuhl presents swing and jazz at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
Friday is dominated by the performances of the band Brass Machine playing rock and roll and Boppin B. presenting swing from the fifties and sixties.
Fun from Austria comes to the fest tent Saturday with the band, “Die Wilderer,” performing oldies, rock music, folk music and typical beer tent music.
Sunday, Mackenbach celebrates with local associations. At 9 a.m., a worship service takes place to be followed with a diversified program by several clubs. Lunch to include a variety of specialties is served around noon.
The Kolping Brass Orchestra Erfenbach entertains visitors in the afternoon in the tent.
“We really want our American neighbors to celebrate with us,” said Klaus Geib club president. “More than 600 Americans live in Mackenbach and some are even members of the Mackenbach Sports Association.”
Tickets to the concerts on Friday and Saturday cost 11 EUR at the door. Advance tickets are 9 EUR and are available at the post agency Dehnrich, Mackenbach Sportheim and the auto store Hanschke and Harsch in Landstuhl. Tickets for teenagers (under 18) cost 6 EUR at the door. They have to present their ID cards.
