The newly established Sickingen Sports Club Landstuhl hosts a charity soccer game May 25 in the Reichswald Stadium in Ramstein-Miesenbach.
The champions’ team of the sports club, TuS Landstuhl, from 1980/81 will play against the championship team of the Kaiserslautern soccer club 1. FCK from 1990/91. All profits will go to “Herzens-sache,” a children’s support program, which helps sick and disadvantaged children.
“Actually, the game was scheduled to officially open the new soccer stadium in Landstuhl,” said Karl-Heinz Scherer, who had the idea of organizing this game. “But the grassplot is not ready to be played on. That’s why Ramstein-Miesenbach’s Mayor Klaus Layes offered us their stadium to have the charity game in.”
All former professional players to include U.S. national team player Thomas Dooley, German national team player Olaf Marschall and World Championship player Elke Rottenberg will play for free to support the child program.
The audience will also find out if Sister Inigo from Landstuhl breaks a world record. She and local bakers will try to make the world’s biggest cheese cake. The money from the cake sale, admission fee and auction of shirts will go to the beneficiary program.
“We expect about 4,000 visitors,” said Joe Felka from the organization team. “Each Euro goes to different children’s projects.” So far, since 1992, Süwestrundfunk and Saarländische Rundfunk television and radio stations, which run “Herzenssache,” collected 18 million Euro for poor and sick children.
The game starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for 5 EUR are available at Sporthaus Hechler in Ramstein and Café Sander in Landstuhl.
