For the second time, the city of Kaiserslautern and the local advertising association “Kaiser in Lautern” will sponsor a Halloween city parade Oct. 30.
From 11 a.m. to midnight the city will be full of weird people, witches, magicians, monsters and vampires showing off their colorful costumes. The parade is known to be unique in Europe, and it will be combined with a pumpkin spectacle.
Children will have their own parade starting at 3 p.m. They can get involved in Halloween face painting and pumpkin carving. The nicest costume and most creative pumpkin will be awarded prizes.
Marching bands and percussion groups will walk through the center of town all daylong, before the main parade begins at 7 p.m.
Anybody who is interested can watch or walk in the parade wearing Halloween costumes or ride in a special Halloween-decorated vehicle. Registration is required to win prizes.
“Last year, 35 floats with about 1,000 participants were in the parade,” said Alexander Hess, managing chief of the advertising association. “More than 30,000 visitors came to watch this spectacle in a great atmosphere.”
Mr. Hess is expecting several thousand participants for this year.
“We got registrations not only from people from the regional area, but also from interested groups from Baden-Württemberg and Switzerland,” Mr. Hess said.
Those with vehicles can win up to €3,000 for the most amazing vehicle.
Registration fee is €50. Interested walking groups with more than 10 people must register for €10.
