Brig. Gen. Mark C. Dillon designated two days in December to provide Team Ramstein with the opportunity to do some fall cleanup.
Dec. 9 is designated for cleaning of installation work facilities, grounds and common areas by facility managers and building occupants.
Outdoor objectives include general clean up, including collecting litter. If weather permits, tasks should include pulling weeds, trimming overgrown shrubs and raking and bagging leaves.
As a reminder, areas of responsibility extend 100 feet in all directions from buildings, including nearby parking lots and sidewalks. Interior suggestions include cleaning stairwells, entries and carpets. It is encouraged to clean out old storage rooms, purge old files, wash windows and touch up paint if needed.
The Self-Help Store (Bldg. 510, 480-5034) provides tools and supplies to facility managers for work areas on Ramstein, Vogelweh, Kapaun and Einsiedlerhof.
Some of the tools and supplies include biodegradable bags, hand/power tools, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, power washers, rakes and shovels.
Dec. 10 was designated for military family housing and dormitory buildings. Objectives include weeding, trimming, raking, bagging, etc.
“This is a great opportunity to team with your neighbors to foster community pride in the areas where you live and play and model responsibility to your children,” said Benjamin Hizon, KMC Housing Office deputy director. “Take the time to attend your communities, including common areas like playgrounds, walkways and areas around the underground trash containers.”

Cleanup participants should separate tree branches and shrubs into two piles at curbside: one for small wood stems up to 4 inches in diameter and another for larger material.
Place all biodegradable, bagged weeds and leaves at curbside, but well away from dumpsters.
The 786th Civil Engineer Squadron will pick-up tree limbs, bagged leaves and weeds at curbside for later composting. Non biodegradable items should be bagged and disposed of in garbage dumpsters. Items like batteries, glass, bulk paper and metal should be taken to the nearest recycling center (Ramstein, Bldg. 5146, near KMCC; Kapaun, Bldg. 2820, across from vehicle processing).
