After the great success of the Culinarious Hike in September with an estimated 8,000 participants, Rodenbach will sponsor a Glühwein Hike starting at noon Saturday.
The event is under the auspices of the Weilerbach Union Community mayor, Anja Pfeiffer-Matheis, and the Rodenbach mayor, Georg Reuss.
During the hike, participants will wander through winter wonderlands and enjoy traditional German and European winter meals. Hikers will have the choice of grilled wild boar, salmon Finland style, Oma’s dampfnudeln (sweat yeast dumplings), noodles with ham and sauerkraut, meat dumplings with horse radish sauce and other winter meals and snacks. Besides regular glühwein, there will be blueberry glühwein, apple cider with winter spices and traditional vintners punch.
To accommodate participants’ requests, the walking distance has been reduced.
Starting at 5 p.m., a disc jockey will heat up the legendary “Tunnel Party” and hot, sippy cocktails will be served.
Organizers will offer a pass at a small cost, which will provide hikers with a glühwein cup they can keep. The pass and cup will allow hikers to buy the glühwein at a reduced price.
Parking will be available on Hans-Geiger-Strasse in the industrial area called “Industriegebiet Nord,” right on B270/L367 coming from Vogelweh to Weilerbach.
The hiking route is stroller friendly. Children and dogs are welcome. For additional information, including a flyer in German and English and details on participating restaurants and wineries, visit www.kulinarische-wanderung.de.
Organizers recommend attending the event with a designated driver.
