The Federation of German American Clubs will hold a winter seminar with snow fun for youth from March 4 to 7 in Benediktbeuern, Bavaria. Interested students must be 14 to 18 years old.
The event consists of discussions at night, games and fun, and a sports program for skiers and snowboarders.
“For those who are no skiers or snowboarders, we’ll offer a cultural program,” said Gudrun Westing, German-American and International Women’s Club Kaiserslautern, who is helping to organize the trip. Those who would like to participate in the sports program must have at least two years of experience in skiing or snowboarding, and must bring their own equipment.
Mrs. Westing is the chairwoman youth work of the GAIWC Kaiserslautern and is helping to organize events for local youth.
“Since the seminar combines fun and education provided by well-trained youth coaches, the Federal Ministry of Education will support the funding and the federation will help to release the students from school,” said Mrs. Westing. “We hope to get enough participants from both nations and be able to promote German-American friendship without the means of social media but by personal contact.”
Cost of the seminar is €95, payable in euros upon registration. It includes transportation, accommodation, board, insurance, ski pass and program.
Participants will stay in a youth hostel in the monastery of Bendiktbeuern that was founded in 739. The monastery also houses a college for philosophy and theology.

Other events scheduled in the future are a trip to Munich in May and a trip to Hamburg in October.
