Freinsheim will celebrate its annual blossom fest under the motto “Cooking, Arts, Wine” Saturday and Sunday.

Surrounded by an ocean of blossoms, visitors will find a large diversity of culinary specialties, wines and art items throughout this medieval town.

Wine Princess Pia and a local band will officially open the fest at 11:30 a.m. on both days at the historical town hall. Guided hiking tours along the trails with trees in blossom will be conducted until 1 p.m.

Wagon rides with Haflinger horses are scheduled to take place at noon.
The band The Flames will provide musical entertainment starting at 4 p.m. in the Konsulat wine garden.

Wineries will present the new season’s wines. Those interested in tasting wines in each participating winery can obtain a wine pass for €10 in the I-Punkt Freinsheim or in each winery.

Food specialties include pancakes with spinach and sheep cheese, prime boiled beef with horseradish sauce, salmon rolls with salad, pork filet with asparagus and fried prawns with papaya salad.

The arts studio in Buschhof will display modern arts and serve Mediterranean food.
Various artists will show off their works and paintings in some of the wineries.
Children can have fun in a carnival set up in Weisenheimer Strasse.

The Baroque garden invites visitors to take a walk along the medieval town wall.
The town wall was built in the 15th century. After the town came under the domination of the electoral palatinate in 1471, the new authorities enforced the current walls. With the iron gate, construction of the fortification came to an end in 1514.

Until the beginning of the 19th century only two gates were leading out of town.
Besides the two town gates, the iron gate in the east and the Hain gate in the southwest, about 20 towers were put up within the wall.

Today, five towers are left. It is known as one of the nicest and most complete town fortification facilities in the Pfalz.

To get to Freinsheim, take autobahn A6 toward Mannheim, take the Grünstadt exit, and follow the signs to Kirchheim, Dackenheim and Freinsheim.
