Every two years, the communities of Kaiserslautern-Süd, Landstuhl and Waldfischbach-Burgalben sponsor the event “Biking Fun in Sickingen County.” County road L363 between Nanstein Castle in Landstuhl and Waldfischbach-Burgalben will be closed to motorized traffic from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Bicyclists, walkers, hikers and inline-skaters can enjoy the 20-kilometer car-free route and the entertaining programs the villages along the way will provide.

This year, the official opening of the event will be at 10 a.m. at Nanstein Castle in Landstuhl. The Landstuhl Brass Orchestra will start entertaining the audience at 10:30 a.m. The local tourist office will have an information stand next to the castle to provide helpful tips. Admission to the castle is free.

In the cemetery parking lot in Bann, the German automobile club, ADAC, will present a special bicycle trail. Pretzels, waffles, cakes and special drinks for children will be served here. In the barbecue hut “Am Sportplatz,” gyros, bratwurst and beverages will be offered.

Queidersbach will have a petting zoo on Metzgerstrasse. A bicycle service will be available in the center of the village to help bikers with problems. The local museum will have a special display and its cafe will be open. The band Musikbox will perform live music starting at 11 a.m. at Sickinger Hof. Food in Bann will include barbecue dishes, vegetables, fruit and escargots prepared in the stone oven.

In Linden, people can test electric bikes and listen to music by Pete & Uwe. The Pfälzerwald tourist center will provide information about the area.

In Horbach, there will be live music by the Horcreeks and a dance performance by the local carnival club. Special potato dishes and a bikers’ punch will be served.

Steinalben will have another bike service station and more electric bikes to test. Event participants can try homemade dumplings with a special bacon sauce while listening to music by the brass band Moosalbtaler.

In Waldfischbach-Burgalben, the local line dance group will perform at 11:30 a.m. Music of the 1970s and 1980s will be played, a magician will entertain the little ones in the afternoon, electric bakes will be available for rent, and prizes will be won when turning the fortune wheel. The special food here will be pork tenderloin with mustard sauce.

The three union communities in charge of the car-free adventure day ask participants to take unique photos along the trail or of their families during that day. E-mails referring to “Radelspass” with the attached photo should be sent to tourist-info@waldfischbach-burgalben.de. Prizes are a family season ticket for the outdoor pool in Trippstadt (€65), a ticket for 26 visits to go swimming in the Bergbad Heltersberg and indoor pool of Waldfischbach-Burgalben (€60), and a €50 gift certificate for the Cubo sauna and wellness facility in Landstuhl.
