An aerial port controller with U.S. Air Forces in Europe recently received the 2003 Air Force Exceptional Innovator Award for his mission restructuring plan.
Staff Sgt. Miguel Dehoyos earned the award by devising a plan to fully support U.S. Army Europe requirements in the Balkans. The plan restructured existing missions and in some instances, eliminated missions altogether without compromising the number of passengers and tons of cargo requiring movement by the end user. He convened a team seven months later and consolidated three separate U.S. Navy Europe channels into one.
The award recognizes the most outstanding innovator (individual or group) who has made the most substantial suggestion, through the Innovative Development Employee Awareness program, to improve the way the Air Forces does business.
Air Force active-duty, Reserves, Guard, civilian employees and contractors are eligible for the award. Participants must have an approved IDEA during the previous fiscal year and tangible savings must be validated.
Each base-level manpower and organization office may submit one nominee to their major command. The MAJCOM manpower office selects one nominee to forward to the Air Force Manpower Agency. AFMA is then responsible for establishing a three-judge selection panel to review the nomination packages and select a winner. (Courtesy of the Air Force Manpower Agency)
