The City of Kaiserslautern will start its park concert season Sunday in the Volkspark.
Deputy Mayor Dr. Susanne Wimmer-Leonhardt will officially open the traditional season of Volkspark concerts at 11 a.m. The first performers will be the Workers’ Music Association Jettenbach presenting well-known and popular melodies until 1 p.m.
Eight more concerts are scheduled to take place in the blue music pavilion in the park next to the duck pond. Several music groups will present a diversified entertaining program.
“The quality of concerts is as high as in recent years,” said Alexander Hess, chief of the Kaiserslautern project office for city events. “We hope to inspire the audience.”
Admission to all concerts will be free. Two weeks after the season opening, on June 12, the Kolping Brass Orchestra Erfenbach will perform “Brass Music with Heart and Swing.” The orchestra will play modern brass music and traditional folk music.
The Kolpingkapelle Neustadt-Hambach will lure visitors June 26 under the motto “Don’t Cry for me Argentina.” The band will take the audience on a musical trip through South America. About 50 musicians will play sounds of samba, tango and bossa nova, including world hits by Carlos Jobim and from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical “Evita.”
The Musikverein 1953 Diedesfeld with about 45 active musicians will present the whole variety of brass music July 10. They will play church music, classical concert pieces by Bach, Grieg and Mozart, musical melodies and folks music.
The concert season will continue July 24 with the Moosalbtaler Blasmusik Steinalben presenting their repertoire that includes Bohemian brass music.
The Spielegemeinschaft Hütschen-hausen will take visitors on a musical walk through the park Aug. 7.
The big band of Stadtkapelle Schifferstadt will present big band sound from rock to swing on Aug. 21. The musical journey through time features jazz standards, film music, pop and rock songs.
“Brass Music meets Jazz and Classical Music” is the motto of the Kottweiler-Schwanden Music Association Sept. 4.
The Pfälzer Musikanten will close out the concert series with “Music and High Spirits” performing big band and brass music on Sept. 18.
“During each concert, a bistro in Volkspark serves little snacks and cool beverages,” Mr. Hess said. “And next to the music pavilion is an adventure playground for children, so they don’t get bored.”
Volkspark, with its duck pond, is located on the corner of Donnersberger and Entersweiler Strasse (next to the public swimming pool Warmfreibad).
