The 39th Transportation Battalion welcomed back home the 624th Movement Control Team Dec. 19 after a 10-month deployment to Iraq.
The unit was responsible for the movement of all convoys, equipment and Soldiers leaving Iraq and was the last MCT to redeploy. During the drawdown the unit acted as the gateway to Kuwait issuing transportation movement requests and ensuring customs forms were properly completed for all equipment in order to clear the southern border.
“We processed thousands upon thousands of Soldiers and billions of dollars worth of equipment,” said Capt. David Moses, the 624th MCT commander. “What my detachment did was ensure all the Soldiers who were there would make it out of Iraq in a timely fashion and be able to be with their families for the holiday
season.”
Soldiers of the 624th MCT were also hoping to be home for the holidays as well.
“All the Soldiers wanted to make it back home for the holidays,” said Sgt. 1st Class Gary Brown, the 624th MCT first sergeant. “They started asking in July, but we remained uncertain until the beginning of December.
“It is a surreal feeling knowing you were the last movement control team to leave Iraq,” Brown continued.
“The Soldiers will be able to tell their grandkids that they were among the last Soldiers to pull out of the country.”
