A swimming and running event for children and youth born between 1995 to 2006 is scheduled to take place June 23.
The swimming part will be conducted in the heated outdoor pool, Warmfreibad Kaiserslautern. The running part will immediately follow in the Volkspark, right next to the pool.
“We, a hand full of engaged people, are trying to arouse the children’s interest for swimming and running,” said Marianne Seufert, organization member of the youth event “Swim & Run.”
The sports club TSG 1891 Kaiserslautern is one of the clubs helping to organize and support the event.
“Children are our future. Let’s teach them to live healthy and cope with challenges — now and not just sometime later,” said Hans-Jürgen Brehm, triathlon division chief of TSG 1891 Kaiserslautern.
Depending on the age group, there will be different swimming and running distances.
The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. The starting fee ranges from €5 to €10.
Organizers will provide food and beverages for participants. The audience will be able to get food and drinks from stands and the restaurant in the swimming pool area.
“We want to support the survival of the Warmfreibad in Kaiserslautern. Where else can youth vent if there is no more possibility to do sports wisely?” said Tobias Wiesemann, chief of the Promotion Association Warmfreibad Kaiserslauteren
e.V., which also helps with the event.
Winners and runners-up will receive prizes. The biggest group participating will be awarded €200, the second biggest €100, and the third biggest €50. For pre-registration and more information, interested individuals or groups should visit www.tri-pfalz.de.
Late registrations at the day of the event will be possible until 20 minutes prior to start. The outdoor pool Warmfreibad is located on Entersweiler-strasse, not far from Kleber Kaserne.
