The German-American and International Women’s Club presented €16,000 to more than 20 organizations June 2 during a barbecue in Erfenbach. These donations were from the proceeds of the 51st annual Pfennig Bazaar.
German club president Marlein Auge and American board member Katie Pelletier explained that the donations are made in three distinct areas. The largest portion of funds goes to local German charitable or cultural organizations. The second largest portion goes to American non-profit organizations that work in the Kaiserslautern area with the money to be spent locally. The last part of the donated funds goes to the Federation of German-American Clubs.
GAIWC is itself a member of the FGAC and every year the federation offers activities for young people, including a ski trip for German and American teenagers and a two-week educational trip to the U.S. for German teens.
In addition, there is a college student exchange program. Once again this year, an American college student is allowed to enroll in the Technical University Kaiserslautern while a Kaiserslautern student studies in the states.
