Chalk up two titles for Kaiserslautern’s Mike Bowers in the season opening military racquetball tournament held Aug. 21 at the Baumholder Sports and Fitness Center.
Bowers earned the men’s open crown by defeating Ramstein’s Curtis Morgan 15-7, 15-3, in the Baumholder Summer Splat event.
He also beat another Ramstein player, Tony Tingley, for the 40-plus title. Scores in that match were 15-5, 14-15, 11-4. Dexter Chun, from Dexheim, was third.
As the results indicate, KMC players will be in the running for the best military open player at the end of the 14-tournament schedule.
The KMC completed a sweep of the top four open spots as Tingley finished third and newcomer Jimmy Romasanta from Ramstein placed fourth.
The consolation winner was Robert Varkonyi from Spangdahlem.
Kaiserslautern’s Tammie Milkes was the winner of the women’s open division with a dominant 15-3, 15-5 victory over Christine George from Baumholder. Alexis Karlson-Martini, from Baumholder, was third.
Tammie Milkes also won the men’s C consolation.
Andrew Milkes, from Baumholder, won the C division by beating Adam Rivas, from Baumholder. Brett Warden from Baumholder took third and 13-year-old Andre Chun, from Dexheim, earned fourth.
Chun finished third in the D/Novice division. Jeff Hartman, from Spangdahlem, got by Tom Lyons, from Ramstein, to win that title.
The men’s 35-plus title was a contest between Morgan and Romasanta, which went to Morgan by scores of 15-1, 15-4.
Baumholder’s Jeff Milkes and Norbert Schwenk took third and fourth, respectively.
Adrian Benevides, from Wiesbaden, won the men’s B division over Jeff Milkes, from Baumholder. Ed Oliveras, from Belgium, was third and Warden finished fourth.
In the men’s 50-plus, Larry Gregg, from Heidelberg, defeated Oliveras to take first place.
