Family support offers new outreach classes

Three new outreach classes are being offered by the Ramstein Family Advocacy Program.

The Ramstein Family Advocacy Program’s main focus is to provide treatment and prevention of spouse abuse, child abuse and child neglect. Social workers provide counseling to couples and parents to help with real life situations.

“We provide families with the skills and techniques to prevent conflicts from escalating, whether it’s a spouse relationship or a parent and child relationship,” said Susan Curry, Ramstein Family Advocacy Outreach manager.

Strengthening Your Stepfamily will focus on building stepparent and stepchild relationships, marital relationships and acknowledging the problems and promises of blended families.

When Your Anger Hurts You and Your Kids is created to help parents who may take their anger out on their kids. The class explores how anger affects children, parental expectations, children’s behaviors and discipline.

Parenting Alone class is for single and divorced parents. It will focus on establishing a new life for parents and children, managing stress, and how to handle dating situations and children.

The Marriage Enrichment Series will also be repeated. The first class is based on the book by Dr. John Gray, “Men Are From Mars, Women Are from Venus.” The next three classes based on the book “The Five Love Languages” by Dr. Gary Chapman. Interested parties can pick and choose which classes they wish to attend from this series.

“This is a very popular series, we often have waiting lists,” said Ms. Curry.
Other classes offered throughout the year include anger management, stress and other parenting classes. Most of the classes are held as part of a series and participants are expected to attend the entire series.

The Strengthening Your Stepfamily and Parenting Alone are the only classes held at the Family Support Center, Bldg. 2120.
