April is a very important month to many agencies here at Ramstein.
I always joke that April is the month of everything. It is known as Month of the Military Child, Alcohol Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Autism Awareness Month, to name a few.
Most importantly, it is also known as Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month. We are always trying to prevent child abuse, but this month is more about remembrance.
Throughout the year, Ramstein Family Advocacy works hard to provide resources, classes and support to military families in the KMC. April is a very special month to remember how precious and innocent our children are. Children are the most precious resource we have. Their honesty and innocence enables them to show great compassion and love to others. Children are our future, and it is important to remember that April is the month of honoring all the children in this world, especially our military children.
Family Advocacy will be out in the community in April, networking and providing information and resources to families at various events. We will be providing an information table at the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center April 1 with a variety of other base agencies kicking off the month of April. We will be giving out information on parenting, stress management, anger management and variety of self-help tools. We are here to help military families and are here to be a source of support for parents.
In April, we will be offering a wonderful course titled, “Active Parenting of Teens,” and for anyone out there who has a teenager, I am sure you have been tested and struggled at some point on what was the right discipline or path for your own teen. As parents, we want the best for our children and when they become teenagers many things begin to change. We are offering support for parents and providing practical skills that can help enhance the relationship parents have with their teenagers. This course will be offered in four sessions and will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 3, 10, 17 and 24 at the Ramstein Health and Wellness Center. Call Family Advocacy at 479-2370 or 06371-46-2370 to register.
Enjoy April, and for those of you who are parents or who work with children, remember that what you do is important and that you are shaping the lives of children each day. You are making a difference in children’s lives and you are helping make our military community a stronger, healthier place.
