C-130s aid Africa

***image1***KIGALI, Rwanda – After five days, two C-130 Hercules from Ramstein transported 240 African Union troops and 60,000 pounds of supplies into Sudan’s Darfur region, finishing their relief mission there.

Along with the aircraft, more than 120 Airmen of the 322nd Air Expeditionary Group arrived Sunday and Saturday to set up airlift operations for the AU.

Within 48 hours, the 322nd AEG set up lodging, food, communications, transportation, maintenance, public affairs, a medical clinic and a full-up operations center.

“These Airmen have worked nonstop since arrival,” said Col. Robert Baine, 322nd AEG commander. “They have set up a world-class operation.”

The Airmen were a conglomerate of U.S. Air Forces in Europe active-duty Airmen and Reservists from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Alabama and Georgia.

In Sudan more than 50,000 people have been killed and at least 1.5 million have lost their homes.
