Angel Tree donations spread joy

***image1***The Angel Tree program kicks off today at 4 p.m. at the Ramstein Base Exchange, spreading holiday cheer to referred Air Force children.

“The purpose of the program is to help families that may need assistance this holiday season,” said Nicole Orbeck, Family Support Center receptionist.

Located on Ramstein and Sembach Annex, seven Angel Trees are decorated with tags, giving a child’s gender and age and recommended donation amount.

“Each tag represents a child who may need a little extra help this winter,” said Ms. Orbeck. “In the spirit of giving, we encourage everyone to select an angel tag and help out the children in our community.”

The trees are on Ramstein at the Northside Chapel, Main Exchange, Northside Shoppette and Family Support Center, and on Sembach Annex at the Tiger Mall, Sembach Chapel and Shoppette.

Participants can buy gift cards for the child and drop them off in one of the four donation boxes located the Ramstein Main Exchange Customer Service, the Northside Shoppette, Ramstein Family Support Center or the Sembach Annex Shoppette.

The gift cards will then be distributed Dec. 13 to 17.
“With gift cards, parents can buy their children what they want for Christmas,” said Ms. Orbeck.

Last year the Angel Tree program raised $13,500 and provided 298 families with money to buy Christmas presents for 522 children.

“In the past six years, the program has been very effective,” said Ms. Orbeck. “We’re hoping to be able to give more to the children this year.”

The kick-off event begins with Gen. Brig. Rosanne Bailey, 435th Air Base Wing commander and KMC commander, adorning the angel tree with a topper.

In conjunction, the Ramstein Family Support Center will have an open house to share information on its services and provide cake and drinks.
