***image1***The 435th Materiel Maintenance Squadron had a unique opportunity to show off their newest asset, the “550 I” Basic Expeditionary Airfield Resources base kit, at U.S. Air Forces in Europe’s Central Regional Storage Facility in Sanem, Luxembourg Nov. 9.
The kit, known as “tent city,” is the first of its kind to be delivered in the U.S. Air Force. The squadron expects to have four “tent cities,” plus six related kits ready to be deployed by 2007.
“The U.S. Air Force has chosen Luxembourg as the home for its new war reserve kits,” said U.S. Ambassador to Luxembourg, Peter Terpeluk, Jr. “This investment shows how strong the ties remain between our two countries – ties that were forged during World War II, ties between both governments and individuals.”
Also accompanying the ambassador were Brig. Gen. Rosanne Bailey, 435th Air Base Wing and KMC commander and Brig. Gen. Jay Lindell, director of Logistics for USAFE.
These upgraded kits will eventually replace the Harvest Eagle kits currently being used by the U.S. Air Force downrange.
“One of the biggest improvements is that the tents can now be assembled by four people instead of twelve,” said Staff Sgt. Leah Hebert, 435th MMS Harvest Eagle NCOIC. “Other improvements include more natural lighting and better ventilation, more compact shipping capability, and more efficient environmental control of the tents.”
Members from the 435th MMS and 435th Construction Training Squadron, together with personnel assigned to the Warehouse Services Agency, spent three days building these kits, which include lodging, dining, shower and latrine units to accommodate 550 people downrange.
The CRSF facility employs more than 100 WSA civilians working together with servicemembers from the 435th MMS, said Egon Klein, CRSF contract officer representative.
“This is USAFE’s main War Reserve Materiel hub,” said Mr. Klein. “Our relationship has been ongoing since the 1990s.”
