86th AW steps up for first UCI in five years

The 86th Airlift Wing’s first unit compliance inspection since the wing reorganization in January 2004 runs Tuesday through Jan. 31.

The focus of this inspection is compliance with Department of Defense and U.S. Air Force regulatory guidance as well as AF safety standards. Wing Airmen have months of preparation under their belts and are in the final stages of ensuring all their “i’s” are dotted and “t’s” are crossed.

“Our wing began focused preparation for the UCI immediately after the completion of a successful surety inspection in August. The wing demonstrated incredible dedication to duty and attention to detail in preparation for this inspection,” said Col. Robert Kane, 86th Airlift Wing commander. “No stone was left unturned.
“This inspection provides yet another opportunity for our warriors to showcase their professionalism, skills and dedication to mission and excellence,” he said.

The inspection team will evaluate the wing’s ability to do what it is trained to do – perform its mission and meet standards. The inspection will evaluate everyday as well as contingency procedures used by the airlift wing.

“It’s essential that all 86th AW personnel demonstrate our high wing standards, practice customs and courtesies, the way they always do. A positive attitude is extremely important and will be the key to success during the inspection. Of course, safety is paramount as we take advantage of this opportunity to show that ‘We Got It!’” Colonel Kane added.

“Your training, attention to detail and professionalism will be put to the test as observers evaluate the wing’s processes. The scope of the inspection will span from wing-level management to flight-level
execution,” said Col. Robert Winston, 86th AW vice commander.

“This inspection is a team effort. Everyone, to include the most junior Airman, plays a vital role in a successful inspection.
“Now is the time to demonstrate your expertise and showcase your contribution to this wing’s mission,” he added.

Final results will be given 9 a.m. Feb. 1 at Ramstein’s Nightingale Theater.
