The KMC First Four is a committee of Airmen from E-1 to E-4, that looks for ways to improve the community and have some fun in the process.
“It’s a good way for Airmen to meet new people and do some volunteer work they wouldn’t normally do,” said Airman 1st Class Megan Deschamp, who is one of eight council members for the First Four.
The First Four, which started in August 2003, is a completely independent group and raise money through car washes and other various fundraisers. The First Four frequently donates to various charities and is planning a donation for the tsunami relief fund soon.
Every month the First Four coordinates an activity with the Vogelweh Community Center. Some past activities they have held are a white T-shirt party with a live disc jockey, casino night and “Bruisea Palooza,” which was an activity last year to kick off the spring.
The committee is also actively involved with Project Cheer and is currently creating more volunteer opportunities, such as, a group mentorship program, designated nights for Airmen Against Drunk Driving and volunteering at the Fisher House.
It also hosts information briefings from finance, military personnel flight, and other organizations that allow new Airmen to know about base programs.
“It goes hand and hand with our Combat Wingman program. Airmen helping Airmen, and getting new ideas out to everyone,” said Senior Airman Lakyshia Fullwood, KMC First Four president.
Currently, the First Four has close to 45 members and it wants to expand. This is one of the best ways for Airmen to get heard and let people know their opinion, said Airman Fullwood.
“We try to create a comfortable environment for Airmen, because they will most likely feel more comfortable speaking in front of other Airmen than they would in front of higher ranking people,” said Airman Fullwood.
The KMC First Four will be holding its monthly meeting 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Martini’s Lounge in the Ramstein Enlisted Club. All Airmen are invited to attend.
