Preparation was interrupted due to inclement weather during the last several weeks. “We are hoping that the bad weather is over, and we can work again,” said Thomas Zinssmeister, garden fair manager. Several projects need to get finished. “A new farmers’ garden will be built, works on the willow school have to be continued and the fence near Schulzentrum Nord has to be renewed,” added Mr. Zinssmeister.

The willow school will be a new attraction, after the willow church was built last year. “The school will have one classroom where classes can meet, talk about subjects and go out to experience the different subjects on the spot such as the pharmacy garden, herbs and former plants to include Biblical plants,” said Elke Minkus, the garden fair’s spokesperson.

The aqua garden will be renewed. A tunnel with fluorescent lights displaying fish and other sea animals will be installed. “We asked 20 kindergartens in Kaiserslautern to make all kinds of animals living in the ocean to be placed in this tunnel,” said Ms. Minkus. “This is one way to include local people in our projects.”

The dinosaur exhibit will have a new dinosaur skeleton, which will be displayed in the tunnel of life. It stems from a dinosaur finding of 50 skeletons total in Mongolia.

Other attractions are the ice age garden with two mammoths, flower garden, activity garden, culture garden, cactus garden and Japanese garden. For the first time, there will be a fairy tale garden showcasing different fairy tales. It starts with Snow White.

Children can enjoy the variety of playgrounds and activities in Neumühlepark. A new attraction here will be a dinosaur jungle gym.

“Last year we opened the miniature golf court to offer something for the whole family,” said Mr. Zinssmeister.

The Kaiserslautern Garden Fair also offers musical events, children’s programs, displays and markets.

Daily admission times are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The fair stays open until dusk.
