***image1***Master Sgt. Rick Sarchet, Detachment 4 Air Force News operations superintendent, was recently awarded with the Air Force Public Affairs Broadcasting Outstanding Achievement Award for senior NCOs.
Sergeant Sarchet works on a team that produces a weekly show called “Air Force Prime Time” that airs on Armed Forces Network Prime Atlantic station at 7:50 p.m. Thursdays. The show took first place in the 2004 Air Force Level Media Contest. His team also produces a monthly half-hour show called “On Assignment” and does frequent radio spots on AFN.
Sergeant Sarchet, whose shop consists of five broadcasters, is responsible for setting up stories, contacting public affairs offices, making sure his reporters write stories and other regular management duties.
He also edits all scripts, and reviews all television and radio stories for the weekly and monthly shows.
The shows produced by his team air around the world on AFN and the pentagon channel.
“The staff here really puts out world-class work,” said Sergeant Sarchet. “They have to because their stories air around the world.”
Sergeant Sarchet also plays a role in the Global War on Terrorism. He sent a broadcast team to a forward base in Djibouti, Africa, to produce a special program informing their audience on the GWOT and forward basing. He also led a news team in Afghanistan covering the search of an enemy weapons cache by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and produced six compelling stories.
The Air Force broadcasting career field manager hand-picked Sergeant Sarchet from a group of 32 senior NCOs to re-write the Air Force Broadcasting Skills Knowledge Test. This test is a determining factor for promotions and other broadcasting achievements.
“I know the award has my name on it, but it’s really about the folks that work here,” said Sergeant Sarchet.
