Do we live at a race track? Throughout my two years living at Vogelweh, I have seen numerous German nationals and Americans speeding through base housing. Since they have started construction around the Florida Circle, things have been much worse. I was removing some groceries from my car the other day and was nearly hit by a German national who works at the housing office. It is no exaggeration that she was driving nearly 35 mph! On my way home from running errands, an American passed by housing and sped off to billeting. When asked why he was driving so fast, he just said that he was in a hurry. Taxi drivers, delivery drivers and folks in GOVs are some others I have seen taking the liberty of making up their own speed limit for housing. The simple question I have is what is it going to take for people to slow down?

Thank you for the opportunity to address speeding in the housing areas.
Security forces regularly conduct traffic enforcement in Vogelweh’s housing areas and they’ve stepped up efforts to catch traffic violators during peak traffic periods. The speed limit for the housing areas is 25 kph/15 mph unless otherwise posted. All drivers must operate their vehicles at or below the posted speed limits to ensure everyone’s safety.
High speed or repeat violators receive severe penalties per KMCI 31-204, KMC Traffic Code.
Drivers who accumulate 12 traffic points in 12 months or 18 points in 24 months can also have their base driving privileges suspended.
The traffic coordination group recently met to research engineering solutions to slow people down. Until we get these in place, please help our security forces by reporting obvious speed violators to the nearest law enforcement desk. Please note vehicle description and license plate information.
