***image1***With the summer months appproaching, it was time for Donnelly Park to get into shape. A team, known as the Donnelly Park Improvement Team, set out to make sure it happened.
The team was comprised of 30 Ramstein Airmen from the 435th Air Base Wing and 86th Airlift Wing, the 723rd Air Mobility Squadron and the Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe staff.
“It’s good for us to get out here,” said Tech. Sgt. Matthew Sukup, 735th Civil Engineer Squadron, who was a project leader for the park clean-up. “It’s nice for people to be working and see immediate results; you can look back and say I did that.”
The team, focusing mainly on yard work, cleaned up the park by trimming trees, cutting grass, pulling weeds and picking up trash. They also painted a pavilion and removed an old fence that was a bit of an eyesore, according to Tech. Sgt. Joe Sutterfield, 735th CES, who was also a project manager.
Some family members and children even came out to help with the clean-up and the 435th Services Squadron made sure everyone got fed by bringing out food and setting up a barbecue.
“That’s the reason we are doing this,” said Sergeant Sutterfield, pointing at the children playing at the barbecue. “The kids should be able to come out and enjoy the park and it should be clean and presentable for everybody.”
Even with the high operations tempo at Ramstein, we needed to take some time out to take care of our park, said Lt. Col. Clifford Puckett, Ramstein Combat Proud coordinator.
“We as the Air Force and the community are a family; therefore we have to support each other. These 30 individuals turned around and supported something the whole community uses,” said Colonel Puckett.
