The City of Sankt Wendel located in the state of Saarland will hold its annual Easter market 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today to Sunday. Stores will be open 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

“This year again, we will offer a lot to explore at our Easter market,” said Leonie Paqué from the St. Wendel office of arts and city marketing. “We’ll have a Easter village, a colorful Ester crown, a giant Easter egg, a petting zoo, an Easter express train, arts and crafts items and diversified activities for children.”

Visitors from all over south west Germany visit St. Wendel’s Easter market today to Sunday.

Visitors can buy, watch, do handicrafts and play at more than 90 stands. Vendors and exhibitors will sell a wide variety of merchandise such as Easter decorations, woodcarvings, ceramics, pottery, glass and leather items, steel objects, historical lanterns and many other arts and crafts items.

The highlight of the market is the giant Easter crown consisting of 2,000 hand-painted eggs and surrounded by spring flowers.

Happy Easter songs can be heard in the Easter Bunny village around the dome. More than 100 Easter bunnies made of poplar in the Erzgebirge mountains are placed in the bunny kitchen, bunny workshop, bunny restaurant, bunny kindergarten and bunny school.

A local artist will present his exhibition of handmade Easter bunny houses in a tent behind the Rathaus. Visitors can enjoy 20 different sceneries.

Children have the opportunity to craft Easter presents, get their faces painted, try out pottery and take part in dancing, making music and testing archery. Walking acts will entertain visitors in the streets. Each afternoon, the Easter Bunny will make his appearance and pass out Easter eggs.

The Easter Express will offer rides through the city 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Each night, between 5 and 7 p.m., a night watchman will make his rounds through the streets with a lantern.

“Our spring market is an insiders’ tip,” Paqué said. “People from all over in the southwest German area come to visit us.”
