Children can get their faces painted and enjoy games on Saturday during the children’s fest in the “Altstadt” of Kaiserslautern.
In observation of world Children’s Day, the 20th annual Kinderaltstadtfest, children’s fest in the old part of town, will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 19 in Kaiserslautern.
The theme for this year’s children’s fest is, “the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion,” based on Article 14 of the U.N. Children’s Rights Convention, and the focus will be on Children’s Rights Week. Visitors can find more information on this subject at the fest.
“This project can only be worked with the help of many volunteers,” said Joachim Faerber, chief of Kaiserslautern’s youth department. “This fest will feature a diversified and free program and turn into a nice experience for children and parents.”
Local organizations, kindergartens, clubs and companies will be at the fest with about 40 stands.
The official opening of the festival will be at noon on Stockhausplatz with a saxophone ensemble by the Emmerich-Smola Music School followed by a juggling performance by Compagnie Jolie.
After a fashion show at 1 p.m., Rathino, a former 1. FCK soccer player, will sign autographs.
Throughout the afternoon, visitors can enjoy dancing, music and various theater presentations.
Along Steinstrasse, on Stockhausplatz, in the Theodor-Zink-Museum, Wadgassermuseum, located in the youth center on Steinstrasse 47, and around Kaiserbrunnen, the fountain on top of Steinstrasse, children can play baseball, football, basketball, hockey, get involved in handicrafts and take part in creative activities. They can also enjoy the nature, science, fun mobile and jump in a bouncy castle.
The Kaiserslautern youth and sports department, the Children’s Protection Association and SOS children and youth aids will sponsor the event held during Children’s Rights Week.
