Office closures

The KMC Housing Office and Furnishings Management Section will close at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday due to training. It also will be closed Jan. 16 in observation of the holiday.

Paper pickup

Special pickups for paper waste are scheduled for Monday in Bruchmuehlbach and Lambsborn and Wednesday in Ramstein-Miesenbach.

Blood drive

The Armed Services Blood Program-Europe will be conducting the following blood drives:

  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at Crossroads Community Center Skating Rink on Vogelweh, Bldg. 2053
  • 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at The Brick House in Spangdahlem, Bldg. 124

Events for retirees

The KMC Retiree Council has scheduled a retiree luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center food court activity room. There will be an informational presentation by a local German tax advisor regarding German taxes, residency and other topics. All retirees, spouses, and retiree widows and widowers are welcome to attend.

A Retire in Germany briefing will be held at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 26 on Ramstein in Bldg. 2120, room 105.

Garbage Guide app

In January, the waste management of the County Administration Kaiserslautern will provide the “Garbage Guide KL County” app for KMC residents. The app includes the amended refuse collection plans, a reminder function for the collection days and a lot of information about waste management. Support needed

The Armed Services Blood Bank Center-Europe needs units and organizations to host blood drives in the local area. All blood collected will stay within the military. For details, call 590-5885 or 06371-9464-5885, or email colleen.m.urban.civ@mail.mil.

Survivor Benefit Plan

For those considering military retirement, one decision you will need to make before you retire involves participation in the Survivor Benefit Plan. As with all good decision making, you need to know the facts before you can make a sound decision. Be wary of anyone telling you they can offer you a better deal. Get the true facts about the SBP before making up your mind by contacting your SBP counselor, Dr. Richard Eleby, at 480-5759 or richard.eleby@us.af.mil.

U.S. Forces personnel are prohibited from entering establishments or conducting business with the below firms, individuals and organizations, except as required by official business. U.S. Forces military members who violate this prohibition are subject to punishment under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Civilians are cautioned these establishments have been declared off-limits to members of the armed forces because the commander has determined they threaten the health, safety, morale or welfare of service members.

Tree cutting near high school

The State Forest Department has begun to conduct tree cutting at the edge of the forest along the Ramstein High School parking lot and West Virginia Lane. Tree cutting will be conducted in four phases and take until spring 2017. The jogging path will be impacted and the parking lot will be partially closed.
