Visitors of the spring market, which takes place Saturday and Sunday in Kaiserslautern, will find a variety of art and craft items for Easter.

Saturday and Sunday, Kaiserslautern’s advertising association, “Kaiser in Lautern,” will offer a spring market combined with a car exhibition and Sunday shopping. Co-sponsored by the city of Kaiserslautern, the event aims to say good-bye to winter and promote local businesses.

The annual event called “Lautern bursts into bloom,” will highlight the beginning of spring with a variety of activities, stage performances, fashions shows and food specialties in the center of town Saturday and Sunday.

“We expect several thousands of visitors and want to show them what the city has to offer,” said Alexander Hess, chief of the Kaiserslautern advertising association.

Stores, restaurant and pub owners, as well as various institutions will present a diversified program to entertain and lure customers.

A fairy tale merry-go-round will offer rides in Markstrasse and a jumping castle will be set up on Stiftsplatz. A free kiddie train will start and stop on Schillerplatz to take children through the center of town.

Children’s activities also include miniature golf in Riesenstrasse, face painting, air balloons and crafting in Fackelstrasse, and the chance to learn how to bake in the bakery at Altenhof.

“Traditionally, the city and advertising association will build a pyramid made of primroses near our information stand in Schillerstrasse,” said Hess. “And we will pass out more than 1,000 primroses to visitors.”

The local rabbit breeding association will present living Easter rabbits and the life-size figure of the Lautrer Easter bunny will surprise children with Easter eggs.

A fashion show to highlight the new spring collection will take place 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday in Marktstrasse.

Artisans of all kinds will present their art and craft items on Stiftsplatz and in Marktstrasse.

Food booths will be set up in different locations. A French market will serve delicacies in Kerstrasse and a street food market will take visitors on a culinary trip on Schillerplatz.

Awakening of spring in Italy will be demonstrated in front of Stiftskirche by offering fresh bread baked according to recipes from Tuscany, antipasti, pizza, ice cream and wines from all over Italy.

Vintage vehicles can be admired in Markstrasse, and local car dealers will present their latest models Sunday on Stiftsplatz.

Various bands and walking acts will provide entertainment in the streets on both days.
