“It was great − a once in a lifetime experience,” said Sergeant Perry, who finished 12 out of 70 golfers in the Counsel International du Sport Militaire tournament in Sun City, South Africa, Sept. 29 to Oct. 6.
The USA men’s and women’s team finished in first place in the tournament that brought military players in from 13 countries.
Air Force golfers first competed in mid-September in the States for slots to play in the Armed Forces Tournament in Oceana, Va., Sept. 23
through 26.
“The tournament is played every year, but the course the tournament is played on changes,” said Tim Smith, the 20th Services Squadron Carolina Lakes Golf Course golf manager. “This year, our golf course was chosen and it is a great opportunity for Shaw to be able to take part in such a huge event.”
Sergeant Perry finished fourth and advanced to the international tournament representing the USA team, which included golfers from the Air Force, Navy and Army. Sergeant Perry was the only golfer stationed in Europe to land a slot on the USA team.
