The zoo in Kaiserslautern-Siegelbach will sponsor a special Zoo Day for families from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The zoo team will offer free guided tours with the animal caretakers. Visitors will be able to look behind the scenes, touch and feed the animals, and ask questions.
Children can take part in a jungle obstacle course, zoo rally and riding course. They can watch a puppet theater performance, get their faces painted and test out skills games.
The zoo’s falconer will show off his birds in flight demonstrations. The bee-keeper will sell honey and candles made from the zoo’s bees.
Zoo personnel will offer beverages and food specialties at the fest meadow and in the restaurant.
More than 350 animals of 60 different species live on a seven-hectare area. There are exotic, wild and domestic animals from various countries. By keeping the animals in their natural environment, the zoo tries to demonstrate its way of nature conservation and the protection of species.
Entrance fee is €7.50 for adults, and €5 for children 4 to 17 years old. The family ticket is €18.
The Kaiserslautern Zoo will celebrate Halloween with free spooky guided tours and creepy food Oct. 31.
