The 86th Airlift Wing is hosting the 2017 Kaiserslautern Military Community Retiree Appreciation Day Oct. 18 at the Ramstein Officer’s Club on Ramstein Air Base. All retirees, whether military, Department of Defense civilians, spouses, widows, or widowers are invited to attend.
After breakfast is served at 9 a.m., the official program will begin with recognizing Vietnam War Veterans by awarding a Vietnam Pin from both the 86th AW and USAG-Rheinland-Pfalz leadership. Attendees will have an opportunity to participate in a question and answer session following the pin presentation.
After the official program, more than 35 groups and agencies from throughout the KMC will be on hand to provide information and resources available to retirees. The 86th Medical Group will provide flu shots, representatives from the passport offices will accept passport applications from retirees, and a representative from Defense Finance and Accounting Services can assist with financial issues.
“As a full-time retiree, I think it’s a great idea,” said Lou de Andrade, 86th Airlift Wing Retiree Activities Office director. “It’s an opportunity for retirees to see the design of the program: to thank them for their service. It’s a chance for them to see that the military still supports them, whether in uniform or not.”
More than 4,000 retirees within the KMC will have the opportunity to see just how much their service is appreciated.
In addition to Retiree Appreciation Day, all four Army Dental Clinics in the KMC will be open to see military retirees from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 17, and retirees will be able to tour a C-130J Super Hercules on Ramstein’s flight line Oct. 19.
This year, the Retiree Activities Office is asking those who wish to attend to RSVP by email and to be signed-in and seated at the KMC Retiree Appreciation Day event before breakfast begins at 9 a.m.
