Phillies scouting director instructs mini-camp

***image1***Brian Kohlscheen, the Midwest Scouting Director for the Philadelphia Phillies was at Ramstein recently for a three-day mini camp at the Southside Fitness Center.

Seventeen players ages 9 to 18 participated in this three day event which provided instruction to help improve their baseball skills.

As a scout for the Phillies, Brian Kohlscheen’s job is to evaluate the older players and work with them on what they need to do to make it to the next level.

Kohlscheen also worked with the coaches on how to conduct a practice session when you have a limited amount of time, enabling the players to receive the most out of a practice session. Kohlscheen was impressed by the talent in the KMC and encouraged all the players to keep practicing and that their dreams of playing at the next level were not that far away. Kohlscheen has been scouting for the past 17 years, first with the Atlanta Braves and for the past seven years with the Philadelphia Phillies. This was not Kohlscheen’s first trip to Germany. Before his Scouting career began he served in the United States Army and in 1986 was stationed in Fulda. He enjoyed coming back to Germany and plans on visiting the area before returning to the United States.

The KMC has one of the top Little League programs in the world, and during the long winter months coaches from the KMC conduct weekly practices preparing them for the spring and summer season.

The Ambassador Baseball program invited Kohlscheen to come over from Oklahoma and work with the players and coaches, thus adding to the level of training that the program provides to the youth of the KMC.

The Ambassadors will conduct another baseball mini-camp Dec. 9 to 11 with coaches from Division I schools in the United States attending.
