This year the annual Ramstein Mudder and the Courage, Leadership, Education, Advocate and Respect, or CLEAR, Challenge will be hosted jointly on May 2 at the Northside Chapel starting at 8 a.m.
The Ramstein Mudder builds and reinforces the skills needed to create and sustain a more resilient force. Structured upon the four domains of comprehensive Airman fitness, the event allows Airmen to demonstrate perseverance, endurance, social support, team work, positive thinking and communication.
The CLEAR Challenge is a Ramstein Sexual Assault Prevention and Response office event, which aims to increase awareness of sexual assault and its impacts. It also brings information to participants on how to report a sexual assault as well as options for restricted and unrestricted reporting.
“Sexual assault is an issue that has a direct impact on our mission. What’s important is that we learn both how to prevent sexual assault but also how to support survivors in a healthy, resilient manner,” said Kelly Dominguez, sexual assault response coordinator. “This is a chance for our community to come together for a cultural change. It’s a chance to let survivors know we are here for you and we do not accept sexual violence as part of our culture, it simply doesn’t line up with our Air Force Core Values.”
This two-and-a-half-mile event also educates the community on additional support agencies who can assist survivors such as the special victim’s council, equal opportunity office, chaplains and mental health specialists.
The obstacle course represents a person’s journey from victim to survivor. The wall climb represents obstacles placed in front of victims, along with the challenge of overcoming them. A litter carry represents the trauma carried with a survivor, but at the same time highlights how others assist with carrying this burden. In addition to the obstacle course there will be a silent walk which honors Ramstein survivors who have stepped forward and reported their sexual assault.
Teams will be comprised of five members, which fosters team building. Teams are also encouraged to come up with a team name as well as a theme.
