The sixth German-French farmers market in the streets in Weitersweiler takes place 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday with the tapping of the keg at 10:30 a.m.
Weitersweiler, with its nearly 500 citizens, is a municipality in the Donnersbergkreis district, approximately 30 kilometers northwest of Kaiserslautern.
Farmers and food producers will present their products such as game specialties, delicacies from Ireland, Flammkuchen from the Alsace, fresh fish, butter pastries, different cheeses, wines, marmalade and honey. Visitors have the chance to see how fish is cured and get to taste a sample. The farmers market also introduces pork products from the Hungarian Mangalica pig. In earlier years, the mangalitza pig was more common, nowadays it is a rariety. The market will feature several craftsmen who will demonstrate skills in chairbraiding, knife sharpening, spinning wheel, basket making, wood turning, chainsaw carving and jewellery making. Visitors can also admire an agricultural machinery exhibition. Regional musical associations will provide musical entertainment.
The market will feature several handcrafted items by artists such as ceramics, wooden items, artificial flower bouquets, metal and stainless steel.
The German-French fruit garden is offering tours, and participants get to enjoy homemade apple juice and honey.
The young visitors will be able to create buttons and badges, play games, get their face painted or visit a bouncing castle.
