Job expo April 18 assists dependents

Due to the success of the first Air Force Civilian Job Application Expo, the human resources specialists from the Ramstein Civilian Personnel Flight will host a second event designed to assist interested applicants in applying for federal Air Force positions located in the local commuting area.

When applying for Air Force federal jobs, via usajobs.opm.gov, it is often challenging to navigate through the automated system. Another challenge is the posting of open-continuous announcements which can lead to confusion about whether or not a true vacancy exists for a particular position at Ramstein.

To circumvent this, the CPF has created a link on the Ramstein public Web site, listing all current vacancies. The link will be updated regularly and can be found at www.ramstein.af.mil/shared/media/document/AFD-080310-003.pdf.

The CPF has learned that the most common questions deal with eligibility, documents that must be uploaded to the system, as well as required self-assessment questions. These issues can lead to missed opportunities for federal employment, since incomplete applications are not forwarded for consideration. This expo is specifically designed to address these challenges and provide more employment opportunities to local applicants.

HR Specialists will be on site to assist with navigating the USAJOBS automated application process. While applicants are using the USAJOBS online system, a human resources specialist will provide one-on-one assistance to answer questions and to ensure documentation is ready to upload into the automated system.

The Airman & Family Readiness Center will hold their regularly scheduled employment training Wednesday. They will go over the basics of setting up a USAJOBS account, address how to write a resume for the federal section and identify what eligibility documents are needed to apply for an Air Force civilian position. They also offer one-on-one resume writing assistance via appointment. The A&FRC can be reached at 480-5100 or 06371-47-5100.

The Ramstein CPF has partnered with the A&FRC by scheduling the expo after the A&FRC’s employment course. This ensures those interested are able to utilize both opportunities to the fullest. It is highly recommended those attending the expo sign up for the A&FRC’s employment course before attending. This will ensure applicants are ready to apply immediately for open vacancies. The Ramstein CPF still has many vacancies in numerous fields including secretaries, child care professionals, medical assistants and resource advisors.

The event is open to applicants who meet the following requirements:
• At least 18 years old
• United States citizen
• DOD command sponsored
• Family member of military or civilian employees stationed in the KMC who has never worked for the government; family member on leave without pay from the United States; or retired/separating military members who are within six months of leaving the service.

The expo will be held at the Ramstein Base Library, Bldg. 409, from 7:30 to 10 a.m. April 18. Doors will be closed at 7:30 a.m., so please arrive early. The Ramstein library has 37 computers available for use and will allow for additional participants if they bring their own laptops.

To attend the Air Force Civilian Job Application Expo, call 480-2052 or 06371-47-2052 no later than Monday.
