Rogues take fourth in Trier tourney

Ten Rogues rugby players traveled to Trier July 26 to partake in one of the most unique rugby tournaments in the area, the annual Trier Beach 5s.  The Rogues fought hard throughout the day and, after a punishing seven matches against teams from France, the Netherlands, Luxemburg and Germany, took fourth place in a field of sixteen.

The Rogues started the day with a convincing 56-0 win against a vastly overmatched Trier-Tarforst  team, which set the pace for the rest of the day.  After a one-point loss against Cologne in the following match, the Rogues recovered to win three more, placing them in the match for third place against RC Luxemburg.  After a grueling match, Luxemburg emerged victorious and Ramstein was forced to settle for fourth place.

Team Captain 2nd Lt. Tom Smith, 86th MXS, was named Rogues “Player of the Tournament” for his exceptional performance throughout the day.

“The guys played hard all day despite a demanding game schedule,” Lieutenant Smith said. “I’m excited about our prospects in the upcoming season.”

The Rogues are always looking for new players of all skill levels.  Practices are held at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at Pulaski Field. For more information, contact the team at
