***image1***The 24th Ramstein Model Train Swap Meet takes place Sunday in the culture center Haus des Bürgers in Ramstein-Miesenbach. Collectors from Germany and other countries will showcase everything dealing with model trains. Additionally, dolls, tin toys, kinder eggs and other hobby items will be on display.
“It was hard to arrange enough space for all the exhibitors,” said Manfred Küster from the Model Train Friends Westpfalz organizing committee. “The Ramstein model train swap meet is one of the biggest in the southwest of Germany,” he added.
Organizers don’t only want exhibitors to sell items, but to display unique pieces as well. The smallest model train facility, the size of a postcard will be on display as well as top novelties from the toy fair in Nuremberg.
Besides model train items such as locomotives, carriages, tracks, signals, houses, lamps and bridges, spare parts are available for swapping, buying and selling. Potential buyers can test items on a special testing installation.
Each year, the model of a carnival with merry-go-rounds and other rides lures plenty of visitors. The owner, Rolf Dindorf, has rebuilt many carnival attractions.
A model car club from Mannheim presents an even bigger race track than in previous years. In a contest, children can test their skills as race drivers.
Among other displays, Monika Berkemer from Bann shows her handmade dolls and Anneliese Müller from Bockenheim displays her handmade teddy bears.
“We hope to attract people’s interest in this international swap meet,” said Mr. Küster. “Model train friends will be able to find many bargains.”
The swap meet takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Doors open at 10 a.m.
Admission fee is 2.50 EUR for adults and 1 EUR for children 6 to 16 years old. Children younger than 6 are admitted free.
Parking is available next to the Haus des Bürgers and the Rathaus.
