Get your swim suits ready, put on your flip-flops, bring some change for a snack and don’t forget your towel because the Ramstein Aquatic Center is scheduled to open Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.
“The aquatic center is an amazing opportunity for our fit-to-fight military lifestyles that the active duty servicemembers are living, for recreational activities for the military dependents, swim team for the youth, and of course just a wonderful place to have fun with the kids,” said Alysse Seligman, RAC director.
***image1***Along with the excitement of the RAC opening and it being a great place to have a good time, everyone should take all of the rules into consideration, so the only thing they need to worry about is having fun.
Those who are 10 years of age and younger must be under the supervision of an adult, age 18, at all times, in accordance with AFI 34-110, said Ms. Seligman. Also in accordance with AFI 34-110, children 11 to 13 years of age are allowed to be left unattended only if they are able to pass a swim test administered at the center.
The only flotation devices permitted for use in the RAC are U.S. Coast Guard approved level I, II or III personal flotation devices. Along with other personal
flotation devices, there will be no glass of any kind in the center and no street shoes or baby strollers are permitted on the pool deck area. The RAC does not allow outside pool toys, but has many toys provided for customer use, she said.
Also, there will be no smoking at the RAC within 100 feet of any door or on the premises at all.Daily and season passes are available for purchase at the aquatic center, along with different programs.
“While year passes range from $70 for a youth up to $175 for a family pass, daily passes begin at $2 and go up to $10 per family,” said Ms. Seligman.
The RAC has eight lap lanes, one diving board and a 70-foot slide. The pool is 25 meters (82 feet) long and 20 to 25 feet high. The pool is open six days a week from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, and 11a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. It will be closed all major holidays and Mondays.
“The RAC will be offering different types of programs in the future including: swim lessons for all ages, water aerobics, and as many different types of programs as we can hire instructors for,” said Ms. Seligman.
In addition to the rules inside the RAC, there are some restrictions in the parking lot that must be followed.
“The parking lot was created for the pool and we are asking that people abide by the 5 miles per hour speed limit in affect,” said Ms. Seligman.
Traffic for the post office is recommended to use the main road rather than the RAC parking lot.
“Trying to offer a ‘little piece of home’ by bringing the aquatic center to the KMC
community creates a place on base for the family to once again have the special feeling of being home,” said Ms. Seligman.
