Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines are now able to replace or buy any tools they might need to assist with unit-level maintenance, and it will only take a few days.
Oct. 1 was the opening for the Product Manager – Sets, Kits, Outfits and Tools Store at Theater Logistics Support Center – Europe, 21st Theater Sustainment Command.
The first of its kind outside of Iraq and Afghanistan, the Tool Store will provide a lifetime warranty support program and the capability to replace tools faster for servicemembers in any branch.
“It’s all web based, so they can do it all online,” said Walter Chemerka, accounts officer at the Tool Store. “It can even be done from the motor pools using a
government impact card.”
Previously, servicemembers had to order tools from the United States and not only wait while it was being shipped, but also pay hefty shipping fees.
“The tool is able to ship from within Germany in one to two days instead of one to two weeks from the states,” said Lisa Howard, Tool Store project manager. “It gets them their tools quicker, so that they can maintain their mission readiness.”
When servicemembers place orders through the Tool Store Web site at http://pmskot.army.mil, their orders are shipped APO-to-APO, eliminating shipping fees. Also, the orders can be shipped by internal 21st TSC transportation assets via the 6966th Transportation Truck Terminal.
“Being over here will cut down on that response,” said Maj. Christopher Dake, assistant project manager for the Tool Store. “In Iraq, we do not have the ability to operate intra-theater. The 21st TSC is a huge asset in providing that here.”
Customers can also pick up their Tool Store orders by visiting the store directly. This is extremely bene-ficial for Army and Air Force maintenance units stationed in the KMC.
In addition to the convenience of ordering tools here in Europe versus the United States, customers will also be able to submit warranty claims and replacement orders through the Web site.
The Tool Store is the largest of its kind in the world with more than 14,000 tools in stock, including 284 stock numbers and about 50 pieces per stock number.
The Tool Store is located at the TLSC-E’s Supply Activity Europe, Bldg. 2219, and is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. For more information,
