Lake will be the stage for a weekend of music and lights

The 25th lake festival at Ohmbachsee takes place today through Sunday. For three days, the lake turns into a big natural stage with lights, music and shows.

Mostly regional bands are scheduled to entertain visitors on four stages set up around the lake.

The mayor of Schönenberg-Kübelberg Karl-Heinz Schoon will officially open the festival by tapping the first keg of beer at 6 p.m. today. The bands Take Five Groovin Affairs will perform pop and rock music until 1 a.m. the following morning. A party with the best hits from the Alps and the sunny south are expected to lure visitors to the Beach Club stage.

On Saturday, the musical program will start at 4 p.m. with Service 69.  The band Saftwerk will provide a German rock party at 8:30 p.m., Chock-A-Block will present a rock show, and Elliot will offer fun with his music. Again, a party is scheduled to take place in the Beach Club.

On Sunday, the celebration will continue at 11 a.m. with different bands on different stages.

A dance group from Szabadszalla, Schönenberg-Kübelberg’s sister city in Hungary, will perform from 3 to 3:45 p.m. The bands Fresh from the Barbershop, Madhouse and Bruise will perform in the afternoon. From 7 p.m. to midnight, Da Vinici wil present Italian hits and The New Generation, a 20-member ensemble, will put on a stage show and musical program mix. Oku & The Reggaerockers will dance and perform from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.

Sunday is also family day. A children’s program with a magician, clowns, games, jumping castle, face painting, swing carts and bobby carts will start at noon.

One of the highlights today and Saturday is the performance of a high-wire artist. Jessica Traber, Germany’s youngest high-wire circus artist, will present a show at a height of 160 feet, including doing a handstand. Her performance is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. today and 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

The second highlight of the lake fest will be the illumination of the lake. First, about 20 boats from the Kanuclub Zweibrücken decorated with torches will ride across the lake at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, then the lake will be put on flames at 10:45. On Sunday, a fireworks display is scheduled for 10:45 p.m.

Stands and booths will offer Palatinate and international food specialties.

Organizers want to let visitors know they cannot bring their own food and beverages. After 6 p.m. today and Saturday, dogs are not allowed.

The daily admission ticket is €4. Children under 15 are admitted free. The ticket price for three days is €7.50.

Ohmbachsee is northwest of Bruchmühlbach-Miesau, between Elschbach and Schönenberg-Kübelberg. With a surface of 15 hectares, it’s the biggest lake in the Westpfalz area. There is a campground and the possibility to fish, sail, surf and rent small boats.
